In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
