Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the judicial center on Friday

An individual who spiked treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
